How can geographic and performance data be used to visually represent and better understand the terrain and routes of the Tour de France?

Background

In this project, we visualized different stages of the Tour de France by generating a landscape based on different routes.

What did we learn?

To create the textures of the landscape and determine their elevation, we used MapboxGL. In addition, 'Three.js' JavaScript 3D library helped us to create the actual landscape and moving objects based on the cyclist input data.

Ambitions

This experiment shows the possibilities of using data to visualize different routes as a way of giving a comprehensive view on the Tour de France.
